Free Food Pantry - Otaki

Post by Kevins » Sat Nov 09, 2019 6:04 pm

KerryAnne and KarenH have started promoting a new Free Food Pantry ('FFP') in sunny Otaki, near Levin on the Kapiti Coast of New Zealand at the Otaki Retreat location. The Forum community is pleased to get behind this project as an adjunct to its Community Garden activity.

KarenH is the forum's Team Lead / contact for FFP Otaki. A fridge is being donated this weekend by the forum admin (KevinS) and the Food Pantry group from Manawatu are donating a stand-up freezer.

Congratulations on a wonderful concept, KarenH and KerryAnne.

KarenH, our Team Lead will have more news as it develops.

The Pantry will be open during the first week of December.

It is currently being stocked by Te Awahou Kai in Foxton.

Their donations of non perishable foodstuffs has been invaluable, in the setting up of Otaki Free Food Pantry.

It has taken a few weeks to get this off the ground, but it is worth it.

It has come about as there is a need, for those less fortunate, in sudden hardship and unable to get help from elsewhere.

All donations of non perishable food stuffs is welcome.

It's been fantastic to see all the news on the Otaki Neighbourly Site and Karen, David and KerryAnne have done a great job. They've tied up with services to ensure there is continuous supply and are donating their time and travel for this.

So. There's a couple of not so happy events in the past few weeks which need to be considered

A good portion of the now ripe plums on the retreat property front tree where absconded with by overnight bandits and the ones in our back section. From the front ones that were picked, seems to be kids - teen's. So... I reckon if I caught one of them... foot would plant. But that's not to be. They were masterfully clever though as none of the dogs heard a peep.

A few weeks back one of the two FFP fridges were tipped over and all the contents scattered. Again, So another person has screwed the fridges to our fence which means, now the fence is in line so we need another long term fix.

And then also a few weeks back, the fridges got raided and emptied overnight.

Seems we need a winter shelter to bolt the fridges to, night sensor lights, and night sensor cameras. It's likely community funds will be raised. The foolish lot who think this is fun have no idea the sufferance of those in need. Nor do they care. We do! Any suggestions welcomed.

We are near the end of the current week’s healing programme. The team realise, with the change of forum member’s area, the healing page will reach some well after the week ends, as they rejoin in a more secure location. It is time to feel fantastic. Be uplifted - revitalised. Time for you to top up your own healing and replenish for the time ahead. In the last few minutes, please, share this healing by thought with all in need, everywhere the need is felt by you at his time.
